James Kimo “Sonny” Kahoilua, 85, of Keaukaha died June 18 at home. Born in Keaukaha, he was a diver and scuba instructor, fisherman, farmer and weaver, had worked for Hilo Ironworks, Hughes Aircraft and in Kwajalein, and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Keaukaha Ward. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 24) at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hilo Stake Center, 1373 Kilauea Ave. Memorial service at 10 a.m. Urn committal service to follow at Alae Cemetery, Mormon section. Thomas Yasuo Kiyotsuka, 69, of Hilo died Aug. 22 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a maintenance worker for the former Hilo Lanes bowling alley and member of Konko Mission of Hilo. Juanita Miguel, 84, of Hilo died Sept. 4 at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in the Philippines, she was a retired Mililani High School custodian. Sonja Gerda Irene Okano, 86, of Yelm, Wash., formerly of Hilo, died Aug. 22 at home. Born in Stockholm, Sweden, she was retired from Keep Hawaii Beautiful, helped start the Hilo litter control program and statewide Adopt A Highway program, and was a member and past president of Hilo Woman’s Club.
